Horseback Riding in Eureka Springs

Thursday, August 13th, 2009

For over 20 years Red Bud Riding Stables have been providing horseback riding to visitors of Eureka Springs.  Bring your cameras, dust off your cowboy boots, and mount your horses!  Enjoy the wildlife and beauty of the Ozarks from horseback with this family run operation.  As you are guided through the varied terrain of their private wildlife preserve, you will have the opportunity to encounter deer, turkey, coyotes, red-tailed hawks, and other animals.  Nature at its best!

During the summer months reservations are not necessary, but recommended.  The horses are very well natured and their fees are $25.00 per person.  If you are riding double with children 2-4 years old, they are charged $12.50.

Pea Ridge National Military Park

Sunday, August 9th, 2009

Pea Ridge National Military Park was created in 1956 and preserves the history of the pivotal 1862 battle.  The park covers 4,300 acres of land and covers the entire battlefield where a little over 400 men were killed during a two day battle.  Overall around 2,000 brave men died as a result of this battle.   The story is not just about the generals, but about the soldiers as well.  They offer the biographies of the battle’s leaders and allow you to read excerpts from letters and diaries as well.

Pea Ridge National Military Park has indoor and outdoor activities for its visitors.  Especially enjoyed is the 7-mile self-guided tour road where there are 28 exhibits to interpret the war in action.  If you would like to stop and enjoy nature, there are also 7 miles of trails with opportunities to see wildlife and the beautiful forest.  Horse trails are available, but no rental facilities.  At the Visitor Center be sure to view the museum and the bookstore, as they are very well done.

Eureka Springs’ railroad history is celebrated in the Eureka Springs and Northwest Arkansas rail road attraction. Just to the south of the depot and maintencnce area lies the ruins of what was once a busling ice house. Although only the shell remains it is a beautifully haunting structure as shown in thisphoto from one of our guests.

Horse Drawn Carriage Rides in Eureka Springs

Tuesday, August 4th, 2009

A romantic way guests of Arsenic & Old Lace tour Eureka Springs is by a horse drawn carriage with Olden Day Carriage Rides. Horse drawn carriage rides are truly unique and a very relaxing way to enjoy Eureka Springs. Of course, they are also used for the many Eureka Springs weddings, what a surprise! In the heat of the summer, carriage rides mostly occur after the day cools down, usually early evenings. This is for the safety of the guests and oh yes, the horse.  If it is in the fall season, snuggly blankets are available to keep you warm!

Olden Day Carriage offers a variety of tours. The basic tour is about 30 to 45 minutes and is $40.00 for up to 4 adults. They also offer an extended tour for $65 for two people for one hour. However, the carriage ride time always depends on the mood of the horse and the amount of traffic! Surprisingly enough they also have a “Marriage on the Carriage” available as well. They ask for a 24 hour advance notice and charge $75.00 for a guided tour of the downtown area. Military discounts are also available.

You Probably Won't See This Guy...

You Probably Won't See This Guy...

A city like Eureka Springs has a long history, and there are places in the city where you can take Eureka Springs Ghost Tours. Meander through the city’s historic cemetery and learn about Potter’s Field, Woodmen of the World, buried icons and folk legends.

Or visit the Crescent Hotel, a legendary Victorian Hotel that is known for the mysterious happenings on the grounds and in the guestrooms. A tour group is located in the Crescent Hotel in Suite 212. They are well-versed in the legends of the Lady in the Garden, the Nurses, Michael & Theodora. Follow them under the hotel into dark pathways to unrealized goals and dreams.

We hope to help you find everything to satisfy your curiosity while here at our Eureka Springs AR bed and breakfast.

It is the 28 season for the Ozark Mountain Hoe-Down in Eureka Springs, and there has to be a reason!  We all need a laugh and what better way to accomplish this than to go to the Ozark Mountain Hoe-Down.  The show has music with a variety of hot pickin’ tunes, bluegrass, and a little classic country.  Add to that some Gospel music and comedy from P. Nutt, Granny, Girl, and you will have yourself an all around “feel good” kind of show that will leave you ready to come back for more!

The evening show starts at 8 P.M., with a 7:30 comedy pre-show.  This is the best show in Eureka Springs and we suggest making reservations as we want to make sure that you do not miss out!  Guests rave about the show in their guest book and we think you will too!

Eureka Springs Belle of the Ozarks

When enjoying a romantic getaway at Arsenic & Old Lace, enjoy a relaxing cruise with the Belle of the Ozarks.  View the sparkling clear water of Beaver Lake and the panoramic shoreline.  The cruise provides a narrative of the waters, along with a little humor.  Points of interest include Beaver Dam, White House Bluffs, a submerged homestead, the Ozark Bluff Dweller’s burial ground, and the 200 acre game preserve island.  Wildlife is in abundance as guests view deer swimming in the lake or the return of the bald eagles in the fall.

The Belle of the Ozarks operates from May thru October with a duration of 1 ¼ hours.  Departure times are at 11 A.M., 1 P.M., and 3 P.M. from the dock at Starkey Park.  Call for reservations at 1-800-552-3803.

Gardens of Eureka Springs Include Blue Spring Heritage Center

Thursday, June 25th, 2009

Guests of Arsenic & Old Lace often enjoy the Blue Spring Heritage Center in Eureka Springs.  The Blue Spring Heritage Center are home to lovely gardens filled with colors, textures, and the surprise of blooms in every season.  The site has been an attraction since 1948 and is rich in the history of the Ozark Region.  From the American Indian through prehistoric civilization, past history can be found at this location.

In 1993, 33 acres were transformed into the Eureka Springs Gardens.  There are over a mile of trails winding through the Blue Spring Heritage Center with new gardens demonstrating crops, plants, flowers, and healing herbs of the Ozarks.  Cycles of flowers, herbs and plant life are tracked throughout the year.  In July, guests will enjoy flowers such as Snapdragon, Foxglove, Phlox, Verbena, and the list goes on!  One of my favorite blooming shrubs during that timeframe is Buddleia, as it is frequently visited by a variety of butterflies.  However, every month is an enjoyable time to visit the Gardens.

The Blue Spring Heritage Center is opened from March 15 through Thanksgiving.  Admission is $7.25 for adults, $4.00 for students 10-17, and children 9 and under have free admission.  We know that you will enjoy the peacefulness of the gardens!
