Atop Rock Candy Mountain, seven miles west of Eureka Springs is Inspiration Point.  This look out site is the home of Opera in the Ozarks, a training program for up and coming performers interested in an opera career.  Opera in the Ozarks is now in its 65th year and has been held here in Eureka Springs since the summer of 1950.  Students who attend Opera in the Ozarks are trained and coached and will learn how to put on a full production of an opera from scenery to costumes and more with a full orchestra.

There are two eight week summer performance programs for students to choose from, the Apprentice Program and the Studio Artists Program.  In the Apprentice Program, students will perform three operas, many times in multiple roles with full orchestra.  Students will also sing in the chorus and are involved in the opera scenes program.  In the Studio Artists Program, less experienced vocalists are cast in one hour outreach productions performed in front of children and families in the Northwest Arkansas area.  The Apprentice Program is $4750 and the Studio Artists Program is $3500 covering the eight week program, accommodations and meals.

In addition to the eight week programs, there are seven day youth camps including piano camp, vocal camp and string camp.  The camps are for young adults from grade seven to twelve.  Camp is $350 and covers room and board and seven days of camp.  Students in the piano camp will cover a variety of topics including piano literature, composer study and piano ensemble.  There is also a master class performance session and a final performance presented at the end of camp.  Vocal camp is a wonderful opportunity for students to perform in a variety of styles including choral literature, musical theatre and art song repertoire.  Two gala concerts are performed at the end of camp.  String camp participants must play violin, viola, cello or a string bass instrument.  This camp is great for strengthening skills in chamber music and orchestra playing.  A string orchestra performance will be put on by the students at the end of the week.

The 2015 dates for the Opera in the Ozarks season have been released.  Opening day will be June 19th and will run through July 17th.  The operas that will be performed are: Verdi / La Traviata, Rossini/ La Cenerentola and Offenbach / The Tales of Hoffmann.  For those interested in attending Opera in the Ozarks, applications will be accepted after November 1st.  After the application has been accepted, an audition time will be given.  Final application deadlines are February 1st.
