Just a few miles outside of Eureka Springs, Arkansas, is Opera in the Ozarks, a unique training program for aspiring opera singers and home to an Opera Festival each summer. Situated at Inspiration Point, “a mountainous place not too many miles from Heaven”, Opera in the Ozarks overlooks the White River valley and the distant Ozark mountains. It is a stunning place to witness opera.
Opera in the Ozarks grew from a Fine Arts camp held during the summer 1950. Its founders quickly decided to focus on opera and music drama, and after decades of tweaking and fine-tuning, Opera in the Ozarks was born in 1993. All performers are students, and the alumni of Opera in the Ozarks have performed at all the major opera houses in the world.
Guests staying at our Eureka Springs Bed and Breakfast from late June to mid July flock to the spectacular performances at Opera in the Ozarks. It is truly a unique opportunity to hear first rate opera in a glorious setting.
Opening night is Friday, June 24, 2011, when Die Fierdermaus by Strauss will be performed. Performances take place nightly (with the exception of June 26 and Monday nights) through July 22, when Opera in the Ozarks concludes with Little Women, by Adamo.
Opera in the Ozarks 2011 features the following performances:
- Die Fiedermaus, by Strauss: June 24,29; July 2,5,8,10,15,21.
- Little Women, by Adamo: June 28; July 1,6,9,13,17,22
- Le Nozze di Figaro, by Mozart: June 25,30; July 3,7,12,14,16,20
